MBS makes his second visit to France in less than a year

On Wednesday 14 June, Saudi Prime Minister and Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman, commonly known as MBS, arrived in Paris, France, for an exceptional week-long diplomatic visit. On Friday, MBS was warmly received at the Elysée Palace by French President Emmanuel Macron, where they had a private lunch and discussed various topics, including the war in Ukraine and the global transition to green energy. They also addressed the situation in Lebanon, a regional ally for both nations.

France and the UAE continue to strengthen their strategic partnership

On 11 May, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) made his second official visit to France since assuming the leadership of the UAE in May 2022. During the visit, he held a meeting with his French counterpart, President Emmanuel Macron. The two leaders convened for a working dinner at the Elysee Palace, during which they discussed the enduring friendship and well-established connections between their respective countries, as well as other matters of mutual interest.

Iraq strengthens cooperation with the Gulf and France

Iraq has been grappling with political insecurity since the last legislative elections held in October 2021, which saw the victory of the Sadrist Movement, led by Moqtada Al-Sadr. The Council of Representatives proved unable to form a coalition for nearly a year, leading to a political gridlock that only came to an end with the appointment of Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani as Prime Minister in October 2022.

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week: Accelerating the Green Transition

The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2023 (ADSW 2023) was held in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 14-19 January. This annual event, which brings together heads of state, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, senior policymakers and youth, was established in 2008 under the auspices of the UAE government and Masdar, the country’s renewable-energy-based green city project, to boost sustainability initiatives, further socio-economic and environmental prosperity and bring about actionable solutions to the world’s most pressing issue. ADSW 2023 stands as the kick-off event for this year’s United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference (COP 28), which will be hosted in Dubai in November this year.

Saudi Arabia Enhancing Cooperation with Europe: The Crown Prince’s visit to France and Greece

Just a month after his regional tour, during which he met with his Egyptian, Jordanian and Turkish counterparts, and only two weeks after US President Joe Biden's visit to Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, embarked on a European tour. He first visited Greece before heading to France with a view to discussing avenues to deepen bilateral relations, regional developments as well as areas of cooperation.
